The 6th Cavalry Brigade was part of the 1st Cavalry Division (United Kingdom) , which was a British Army First World War and Second World War formation formed in 1939 from Yeomanry Regiments.
The only British cavalry division during the War, this formation was sent in January 1940 to the Middle East as a garrison and occupation force.
On 1 August 1941 the Division was converted into the 10th Armoured Division, and the 6th Cavalry now the 8th Armoured Brigade , would take part in the battles at El Alamein and land at Gold Beach on D Day
